PARTICULARLY FINE CONDITION SINGLE ACTION DESIRABLE .44-40, 7 1/2" #347XXX, MADE 1925
Description: PARTICULARLY FINE CONDITION SINGLE ACTION DESIRABLE .44-40, 7 1/2" #347XXX, MADE 1925. This is a really attractive example with all matching numbers including the grips and last two numbers on the back of the cylinder. By this time in SAA production the .44-40 was less often produced than the classic .45 Colt caliber and s few others. The long 7 1/2" barrel was also not produced in the quantities the 5 1/2" and 4 3/4" was. This one has excellent markings including the "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER .44-40" barrel marking, tight mech. and perfect bright bore. The screws still show fine fine deep polish blue, The barrel retains fine blue with some usual silvering on the left side only for a little over two inches toward the muzzle from holster wear. The ejector housing also shows thinning blue mixing some gray from holster carry. The balance of the barrel and ejector housing show excellent deep blue. The cylinder displays fine deep blue with only edge wear. Only the front strap and back strap show wear from handling and are basically gray with good blue on the upper back strap by the hammer, on the butt and on most of the trigger guard bow. Case color is fairly vivid on the forward part of the frame ahead of the cylinder with the balance thinning and turning cloudy gray with good color in the protected areas and more on the left side. Grips show light wear and fit perfectly with one barely perceptible chip at the left rear corner. Overall a scarce caliber and barrel length 96 year old Single action with a lot of finish and appeal. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Handgun Caliber: .44-40 Winchester (.44 WCF) Manufacturer: COLT Model: SINGLE ACTION ARMY Serial Number: 347XXX Barrel Length: 7 Condition: FINE+ Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
