Colt Anaconda 1st Generation 1994 45 Long Colt Stainless 6” with Original Box, Manual
Description: The Colt Anaconda! A name that has grown in status over the many years since its introduction and discontinuance so as to be nearly legendary, similar to its smaller cousin the Python. The Anaconda is often considered the “holy grail” of .44 Magnum revolvers. Designed to best any .44 Magnum revolver produced at the time, production of the Anaconda began in 1990. It was essentially an upscaled King Cobra/Trooper Mark III and was never hand-fitted, unlike the Python. One of the Anaconda’s most recognizable features is its ventilated rib, though many Colt revolvers used this same feature. The second most notable feature is its size – the Anaconda was the largest revolver until the introduction of the Smith & Wesson X-frame series of revolvers. The record was previously held by the Colt New Service revolver. The Anaconda, like the Python, is known for its extreme accuracy. One reason for this was the use of what many Colt fans refer to as the “silver ball method." A Colt trade secret, persons who were actually allowed to see it stated that a silvery ball made of an unknown material were pressed down the unassembled barrels bore by hand (using a tool of course), leaving the bore very shiny. Sadly, falling interest in revolvers and lowered demand for them on the market led to Colt ceasing production of all double action revolvers, even from the custom shop, in 2003. Fortunately, renewed interest in revolvers would result in Colt introducing a new generation of snake guns, starting with the Cobra in 2017, followed by the King Cobra in 2019, the Python in 2020, Anaconda in 2021, and the Viper in 2024. The first-generation Anaconda shown here was produced in 1994 and is one of the few chambered for the legendary .45 Colt instead of the usual .44 Magnum. It comes with the original box and manual. There is little in the way of wear as it has spent most of its life in a safe. There is an unusual area of discoloration on the top of the frame, which can be seen in photo number 12. Dried oil can be found in a few spots. It has taken on a dark brown hue and may appear to be rust at first glance. There is no rust, however. The front face of the cylinder exhibits little to no powder burns. There is very light turn ring on the cylinder. The bore is in superb shape with little or no powder residue. It is visibly very clean and should provide stellar accuracy. There is a slight gap in the grips at the bottom. It should be noted that the box is in good condition for the most part, although one of the clasps is broken. The original paperwork and manual are present in the box.
