1849 Colt Pocket Revolver .31 cal
Description: PRICE REDUCED 8/28 Here we have an engraved 5 inch 1849 Donut scroll engraved Colt Pocket Revolver serial number 20415 manufactured in 1851. This revolver was most likely engraved by Thomas Barlowe based on the federal shield engraved on the trigger gusrd and assumed be his signature. The 5 inch pockets were produced in fewest numbers compared to the 4 inch and 6 inch models. There are two characteristics of this particular revolver that make it a rare collectible, first note that the engraved barrel address is viewed and read from the right side rather than the left and second the trigger guard and backstrap or gold plated. There is an 1851 colt Navy serial number 5605 made about the same time as the subject pocket and engraved in the same donut, scroll style as Barlowe's that exhibits the same gold plating, and can be seen in Wilson's Engraving Book Volume I one page 60. Take note that the inspector stamp on close-up of right side of trigger guard "T" stamp is that of the Colt factory final inspector. William Tuller. "T" appears to be applied after plating, suggesting in-house plating. CONDITION: *grips retain all original varnish with a slight crack *trigger guard and backstrap retain 95+ percent of heavy gold plate. *All case colors have faded out *all engraving is crisp and fully legible *barrel retains 95% blue *cylinder is gray with some slight pitting and entire scene is still crisp invisible All Serious Offered will be considered SOLD Antique: Yes |
