Battle-scarred Colt Model 1860 Army Cavalry Revolver Made 1862
Description: Antique 1862 production original Colt Model 1860 Army 44 caliber percussion revolver with 8" barrel. This revolver is all original and all serial numbered parts match, including the wedge and cylinder pin. Serial number 53772. Barrel is marked with the New York address but marking is weak. Frame has a clear "COLTS PATENT" marking and the patent information clearly shows on the cylinder along with the partial serial number. 6 shot cylinder with all original nipples in good condition. Original walnut grips show wear but never sanded, cleaned or refinished. Cartouche on left grip is no longer legible due to wear. "JT" on right grip for John Taylor can still be made out. Upper portion of left grip also has a script "B" in a box so possible issue/marking of Company B, 10th Illinois Cavalry, which had several Colts in this serial number range. Brass trigger guard has turned a pleasing mellow ochre, never having been cleaned. Action locks up tightly and times perfectly. Strong hammer spring. Bore is near excellent having only slightly worn rifling and no areas of black powder roughness. Cylinder and most metal surfaces shows pitting and dings. Frame retains smoky traces of original case colors. All in all it grades NRA Antique Good and is a nice representation of the model. Interesting damage to the serial number on the brass trigger guard - appears to be a slash from a sword undertaken during hand-to-hand or close quarters battle. I picture the shooter firing all of his loads, not having time to reload, and putting up his hand holding the revolver to block a sword blow from his opponent. To me this is the only logical explanation - if someone stole the arm, they would have obliterated all the serial numbers, not just one. At any rate, I left it alone as it adds to the mystery and "battle charm" of the revolver. TERMS: No international sales. Antique so it can ship directly to you assuming your local laws allow it.
