Up for sale is a highly desirable 5-inch Colt 1849 Pocket Pistol bearing Serial No. 147666, manufactured circa 1858. The two-line New York barrel address is correct for that production period, confirming its authenticity.
Matching Numbers Throughout This example boasts matching serial numbers in all verified locations — barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt, cylinder, and loading lever — 8 out of 8 checked. The wedge and arbor were not pulled, but are presumed to match as well. 
Mechanics The action is excellent. For those unfamiliar with these percussion revolvers, they operate on two clicks rather than the four found on later single-action revolvers: the first click is half-cock, which allows the cylinder to rotate freely for loading, and the second click indexes the cylinder and locks the cylinder up tight, putting the gun in firing position. On this pistol, both functions are crisp and correct — no small thing, as action work on antique Colts can be both difficult and costly. The gun is mechanically excellent. 
Condition The pistol presents very well for its 170 years. The silver finish on the trigger guard is 85%. The bluing is 50%. The wedge screw has fire blue coloring left on it. Overall a very good condition pistol. 
"Devil Anse" I've taken the liberty of naming this one Devil Anse a nod to the Hatfields and McCoys — in honor of that sinister little 666 buried in the serial number. Seemed appropriate.
