Description:
This 2nd Model square-back trigger guard Navy was made in 1851 and has a very unusual 6 1/2 inch barrel. Very few 51 Navy Model Colts are known with anything other than a 7 1/2 inch barrel. To quote from "The Book of Colt Firearms: special order lengths known include 6, 6 1/2, 10 and 12 inches. Such variations are extremely rare". Wilson recorded one 6 inch Model 1851 in the 11000 serial range, and a converted 1851 with a 6 1/2 inch barrel is also known in the 9000 serial range. This gun, serial number 3503 may very well be the earliest known 6 1/2, and the only 2nd Model square-back. It has all matching numbered parts, including the loading lever, and one piece ivory grips with two notches on the right side. It has an over all natural grey patina finish and is mechanically good. A very interesting gun which may be quite unique. PRICE: $4,500 We are Antique & Modern Firearms in Lexington, KY, dealer of fine firearms since 1974.
