Colt 1860 Army Early 4 Digit and Fluted Cylinder with Colt Archives Letter
Description: ***** SALE PENDING MICHAEL Y ***** Colt Model 1860 Army Cavalry Revolver, serial number 1064, caliber 44 percussion, 6-shot fluted cylinder, 8" round barrel, brass front sight and trigger guard, blued steel back strap, case-hardened frame and loading lever, walnut grips, serial number 1064, made 1861, 4-screw frame for mounting of early style shoulder stock, blued and case hardened finish with brass trigger guard. This is one of the first 300 that were ordered by Governor William Dennison and sent to Columbus, Ohio on June 14, 1861, right after the start of the Civil War (two other shipments brought his order total up to 500). As such, this was considered a private purchase, so these revolvers were not sent for Government inspection and thus have no inspector markings anywhere. The patent date appears in one flute and the matching serial number in another. Matching serial number also appears on bottom of grip strap, trigger guard, frame and barrel. Wedge is not numbered and the number on the arbor has worn off. Bore has wear and pitting but evident rifling and no rings or bulges. Top of the barrel has the correct, early Hartford, CT address. Barrel to frame mating is tight. Ramrod is also tight and functions without binding. Recently two other Dennison fluted Army revolvers sold for $6200 and $6700, so my asking price is well within recent market values. Dennison's fluted Army revolvers were given to Ohio Cavalry Troopers that did battle with Confederate John Hunt Morgan and Morgan's Raiders! Don't miss your chance at a piece of history! CONDITION: Barrel, cylinder, frame and lever have turned a dark patina mixed with some plum. Brass trigger guard is a pleasant, uncleaned mild ochre. All metal parts show light pitting, staining, nicks and dings. The stocks remain in very good condition with a few nicks and dings, having a coat of extra finish added for preservation of the wood. Action is crisp, half and full cock notches hold well, cylinder indexes perfectly every time. Grades NRA Antique Very Good. A true survivor that will be sure to increase in value over time. Colt letter will be given to the buyer. TERMS: No international sales and no sales to Alaska or Hawaii. Antique so it can ship directly to you, assuming your local laws allow it, so driver's license to show proof of 21 or older is required. Payment by bank check, USPS money orders, personal check, or GunTab. 3-day non-firing inspection. Buyer pays return shipping. Please have a competent gunsmith check it over if you intend to shoot it. Ships by FedEx Ground with tracking. Thanks for looking and please see my other listings for more great firearms!
