Colt 1st Mdl Dragoon w/Flask
Description: Before you get excited this is NOT an original 1st Mdl Dragoon but a very well made copy. I have owned many copies and brevets over the years of Dragoon's, Walkers, and Paterson's and copies of Colts have been made since the 1830's. Have not seen another like this one. Gun is definitely old and I do not believe this one was made to deceive. I say that because this Dragoon has several things that stand out different than the original that anyone with knowledge of them would pick up immediately, first is the Cylinder is etched and not roll engraved, second is the Steel back strap, Walkers and Whitneyville Dragoon's had steel straps but 1st Mdl Dragoon's had Brass. Last is in this early serial number range it would have had the tiny numbers. This has the correct mid frame placement of Colts Patent and U.S. correct inspector marks including Wat Cartouched grips with 1848 date. Correct Bbl address. Has assembly number 11 on right rear tg bow and also on underside of Bbl. All matching serial numbers including wedge and cyl arbor. Gun has a very pleasing overall blue-grey patina. Functions exc. comes with a nice Dragoon flask that I also suspect to be an old copy but I could be wrong on that as I am not real familiar with Flasks, ball compartment cover is not marked "Colts Patent" and it is definitely not marked made in Italy or England. Has that correct honey gold patina you would expect on an old Flask. Have many more detailed pictures of both I can provide to serious inquiries. SOLD Antique: Yes |
