This is the 3rd U.S contract, by serial number it falls between #3660 and #5275. This contract was for the 2nd dragoon Regiment of Texas. Circa 1850-1855. This information is from records researched by Col. Robert D. Whittington U.S army retired. This fine revolver is serial #4010. Numbers match except wedge which is unnumbered. This is a fine 1st model Dragoon with excellent cylinder scene 100% visible. The revolver has lost its blue and case colors but the metal is very fine with no pits or abuse. The bore has very good rifling and moderate pitting. The Grips are fine old mellow one piece Ivories that look very handsome on the gun and were used to replace the factory wood grips issued to the gun. This is not a plated gun. What you see is the metal, now in the white. Hard to find a 1st model dragoon in decent condition and this one more than qualifies for condition and being issued to the 2nd Dragoon Regiment U.S Army in Texas.
