Colt Model 1849 Hartford 6 Inch Pocket Revolver Mfg 1860 5 Shot
Description: Serial #175407, .31 Caliber, 6 inch octagon barrel with a fine mostly bright bore with strong rifling and scattered light roughness. This is a Pre-Civil War two line Hartford address Colt Pocket Model 1849 revolver manufactured in 1860. In very good / near fine condition the barrel retains about 30-35% of the original blue that is strong in protected areas flaking to show a scattering of gray-brown with the balance pewter-gray having a crisp two line address marking on the top facet. The address shows the broken die for the "L" in Colt and appears as "COIT" which is correct for this serial number range according to Jordan & Watt in Colt's Pocket '49. The frame, hammer, and lever show hints of the original case-color with much of the surface a mottled pewter gray and brown with light handling marks. The cylinder which is correctly numbered to the gun features the Wagon Scene with very good detail and tones from pewter-gray to brown. The gripstraps have retained about 65-70% of their original silver finish with some flaking that exposes the yellow-ochre underlying metal with the initials "A E W" scratched on the bottom and it's common to find names and initials here as many were given to soldiers going off to fight in the war.. The grips are solid with light use marks and old surface level contusions. The action functions properly with tight lock up and smooth action. A very good example of a 5 shot pre-Civil War Pocket '49 with the desirable 6 inch barrel. Antique. SOLD |
