Colt Model 1860 Army .44 Caliber SOLD
Description:
Colt Model 1860 Army is a .44 caliber, six-shot, single-action revolver produced from 1860 through 1873. It features either an 8 inch or 7 1/2 inch barrel; rebated cylinder (the rear of the cylinder is smaller than the front allowing the loading of .44 cal ball into the 1851 Navy frame); casehardened frame, hammer and lever; with a brass trigger guard and blued steel backstrap. The Colt .44-caliber “Army" Model was the most widely used revolver of the Civil War on both sides. This example is in fair condition with pitting along the frame and cylinder. The lockup is loose and the action does function, however it is no longer smooth. The barrel, frame, backstrap and trigger guard are original and matching. The cylinder numbers are not identifiable, but the wear and patina match the rest of the revolver and is believed to be original. This would make a nice historical piece to add to any Civil War collection.
