Civil War Colt Model 1861 Navy Revolver - Cal. .36 - 7 1/2" Bbl. - SN 183XX(1864) - all matching numbers. Bore is bright with sharp rifling but shows some small areas of roughness - excellent action with perfect timing and lock-up - metal is VG++ with sharp markings. Barrel retains about 65% thinning blue drifting to brown with some areas of darker blue - cylinder has 50% thinning blue with sharp serial marking but typical very light and faint "Texas Navy" scene. Case colors on frame have darkened to a grayish patina. Guard and backstrap are untouched with a nice, mellow tone. Walnut grips are excellent with about 90% finish and are undamaged except for a ding or dent on the lower part of the left grip. This is a very crisp, Fine and scarce 1861 Navy that is getting very hard to find. It does not appear to be a US martial as I find no inspector marks on grips or metal, however many of these were purchased privately by both officers and soldiers and saw extensive use in the war. A fine representative example of a desirable CW revolver that will make a nice addition to a Civil War collection.
