Colt Model 1861 Navy Revolver
Description:
Serial #36420, .36 Caliber, 7 1/2" octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves.
This is a late production, 1872 manufactured revolver that has matching numbers on the frame, gripstraps, cylinder, barrel, and arbor.
The wedge is not numbered, and has tool marks on the underside where a number was removed.
The barrel has a mostly pewter gray patina, but quite a lot of the original, brilliant charcoal blue remains on protected areas, especially along the underside of the barrel.
The cylinder has turned to a fairly uniform dark gray patina, and the frame retains visible traces of original color case-hardening on both sides.
The trigger guard and gripstrap have a bright, yellow-ochre patina throughout, and the walnut grip is in very good shape with much of the original varnish remaining.
There are numerous small handling marks on both sides, but no chips or cracks.
The lock-up is tight and the mechanism is fully functional.
This is a very nice example of a late production Model 1861 Navy that is in fine overall condition.
