Early London Colt Model 1851 Navy Revolver Matching

Description:
Serial #5277, .36 Caliber, 7 1/2" octagon barrel with a very good bore that has mild pitting towards the breech. This is a good looking, 1854-made revolver that has nearly all matching numbers, save for the unnumbered wedge. The metal has an overall pewter gray patina, with some areas of darker freckling present on the barrel, cylinder, and frame, as well as some minor impact marks on and around the wedge. Some traces of original color case-hardening can still be seen on the protected areas of the loading lever. The cylinder retains about 60-70% of the naval battle scene, with some of the safety pins still standing proud of the rear face. The walnut grip is in very good shape with numerous handling marks and blemishes scattered about the thick, added varnish. This gun has no British proofs and may have been sent straight to Portsmouth for the Baltic Fleet. This would also explain the large rack number is present at the butt on the left side: "31." The lock-up is tight and the action functions flawlessly. This is a very good-near fine London Navy, made in the second year of production. Antique;
