English London Cased Factory Deluxe Engraved Colt 1862 Pocket Navy w/ Checkered Rammer
Description: Exceedingly Rare Deluxe Factory engraved Colt Model 1862 Pocket Navy. This Colt is very rare for many reasons, condition, engraved, and being a London variation. This Colt is cased in an original London case. Case and accessories alone are worth anywhere from $5,000-8,000. The gun itself is extraordinary having a beautiful and flawless engraving done. The loading lever is checkered which was only reserved for some of the highest quality Colt firearms. It is very seldomly seen. London variations of this model are rare as well, in my time of doing this, I've seen maybe 3 or 4, however I have never seen another factory engraved London model with a New York barrel address. The revolver underneath all the serial numbers has a tiny "L" which meant this gun was manufactured for the London agency which Colt then shipped it overseas. The revolver bears London proofs on the barrel and all the cylinders. Condition on this pistol is absolutely beautiful, the barrel retains nearly 95% original blue finish, the frame and hammer retain nearly 90% original case hardening. The grip is beautiful although has been refinished. the cylinder exhibits a professionally restored refinish. It however is the original cylinder to the gun. The backstrap and guard retain 75% original finish. The backstrap is inscribed Capt R.H. De. Montgomery 32nd Foot" He was a British Captain however no other information has been found. The action functions very well. Without the restoration this gun would easily fetch in excess of $125,000 to possibly $200,000. There is quite possibly no more then 3 to 5 more of these deluxe engraved London Pocket Navys out there. It would be almost impossible to locate another. Here is a link to James Julia's where this gun was estimated at $35,000-$50,000: ://morphys/jamesdjulia/item/lot-2143-rare-cased-engraved-colt-pocket-navy-percussion-revolver-47861/ I will consider a fair offer for both parties on this firearm.
