U. S. Civil War Colt Model 1851 ID'd to Pvt William McClure of Co F, 1st Iowa Volunteer Cavalry. This unit participated in the Guerilla Campaign Against Quantrill and others. Private McClure mustered in on August 1, 1861 and mustered out on Feb 15, 1866. There's a lot of history here.
This is a fourth model with the large round triggerguard. All numbers match except the wedge has no number. There is still some blue on the barrel and cylinder. The grips have been varnished. Includes a Springfield Research Letter.
