RARE N. GILON BELGIAN BREVETTE COLT 1851 NAVY PERCUSSION REVOLVER.
Description: USE FREE N EZ LAYAWAY PLAN. NEVER A FEE!! 25% DWN Then you deside how many payments you wish to make. Here we present an antique Colt 1851 Navy Brevete Revolver, made in the 1850s by Liege gun maker N. Gilon. In 1851 Colt’s patent agent in Liege, William E. Newton, made a deal with multiple Belgian gun makers to manufacture licensed copies of the Model 1851 Navy. Ten francs was the settled upon royalty. Nicolas Joseph Gilon was one of these makers. Several other countries saw licensed copies as well, like Austria and Russian, but typically none as good as the Belgium. With only limited production capabilities at Samuel Colt's factories, numerous European makers began legally and illegally manufacturing revolvers using Colt's patents. Upon inspection at the Liege proofhouse, a royalty was charged and the revolver marked, in this case on the top barrel flat with "COLT PATENT", in addition to the standard Belgian proofs. It is fitted with a 7 - 1/2" .36 caliber blued octagon barrel with brass pin front sight, 6 shot percussion cylinder with "N. GILON" maker mark on face and mounted ranger scene, case hardened frame and loading lever, brass grip straps with round trigger guard, and smooth walnut grips. CONDITION: Very good retaining traces of original finish, especially in protected areas such as the bottom of the barrel, with balance taking on a Very Attractive gray/brown patina. Good shootable bore with strong rifling. Good mechanics. Numbers matching on barrel, frame and trigger guard. This example is one made under license in Belgium (see the Liege stamp on the front of the cylinder) and marked by the maker, N. Gilon. Instead of the typical 1851 cylinder scene of the Texas Navy fighting the Mexican Navy, this specimen reflects a fleeing stag and a pursuing hound with hills and trees in the background. It is a very nice piece, and the grips are stamped with the year “1854”. The bottom of the loading lever is stamped “NG”. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Here is something you will not see every day—licensed and unique versions of Colt’s 1851 Navy!
