Way Beyond Rare! Only Verified Pair of Consecutive Colt M1848 Baby Dragoons
Description:
In April of 2018, a rare Colt revolver was sold by Rock Island Company for $1.84 million, breaking the world record for a single firearm sold at . The firearm was a rare Colt Model 1847 “Walker” and it is thought that less than 100 were ever produced for the civilian market. It was the ONLY known example in an original case. Don't you wish you bought this 20 years ago? If you missed that one, here is the ONLY known verified pair of Colt Model 1848 Baby Dragoons with consecutive serial numbers, 11469 and 11470. Of the 15500 Baby Dragoons produced, only 300 were made with features displayed on these revolvers. Each of these revolvers were authenticated in 2017 by Robert M. Jordan, leading authority and Author of "Colt's Pocket 49 It's Evolution including Baby Dragoon & Wells Fargo" and his latest book "Colt 1851 and 1861 Navies & Conversons." In his "Letter of Authenticity", (see photo) which is included with this sale, he states " IT IS VERY RARE TO ENCOUNTER CONSECUTIVE SERIALIZED ANTIQUE COLTS...THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE WHEN WE ARE TALKING ABOUT COLT BABY DRAGOONS." He goes on to say "NO OTHER VERIFIABLE CONSECUTIVE PAIR ARE KNOWN TO ME." His letter also states that IN MY DATABASE OF OF 5" BDs, OF 156 GUNS, ONLY 22 HAVE THE SAME FEATURES AS THIS PAIR. He sums up his letter by stating "I BELIEVE THAT THESE GUNS ARE ALL ORIGINAL WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF ONE HAMMER, WHICH WAS PROBABLY A PERIOD REPLACEMENT AND SHOULD NOT BE REGARDED AS A SERIOUS FAULT."
An alternate theory regarding the hammer is found in Shumaker's 1966 Book "Colt's Variation of the Old Model Pocket Pistol 1848-1872" page 18, 2nd paragraph, it states "AS A RESULT OF THIS (Colts) FRUGAL BUT SENSIBLE POLICY, THERE FREQUENTLY OCCURED WHAT CAN ONLY BE TERMED AS "TRANSITION PERIODS" DURING WHICH SOME GUNS IN THE SAME NUMERICAL GROUP WOULD APPEAR WITH THE OBSOLETE BUT USABLE PARTS, OR PERHAPS WITH A COMBINATION OF OLD AND IMPROVED PARTS." The double case shown in the photos was custom made by Bill's Cases to display these revolvers and is included in this sale. It is made of African Mahogany to original Colt standards for Baby Dragoon Cases. Included with the case are accessories authentic to the period. High must be at least 21 years of age and provide a copy of their drivers license with payment. Payment must be received within 7 days of purchase or sale is VOID and the revolvers will be relisted. Layaway available. Email for terms prior to purchase. These antique revolvers were manufactured prior to 1898 and DO NOT need to be shipped to an FFL Dealer for delivery to you.
