#4573 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x44WCF manufactured in 1878 (45XXX)
Description: #4573 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x44WCF manufactured in 1878 (45XXX) and thus being one of the very earliest of the 44/40 caliber single Actions (caliber of which started in the 42XXX serial range). VG++ to Fine bore (8+) and smooth, tight action and looks like the bore will clean even better with some scrubbing. The metal is extremely nice condition for a 142 year old revolver and it has almost no pitting or serious wear anywhere and barrel address is strong and all other markings are clear. It retains a fully visable but thinning acid etched “CFSS” barrel logo panel and 50% coverage of a soft plum blue-brownish patina with 20% density on the barrel. The cylinder has slightly less and shows more dulling of the plum blue from probable cleaning of the cylinder. The straps have some good color at the top just behind the hammer, and very nice one-piece walnut grips that show minimal wear and no serious damage. The overall look on this very early 44WCF calibered S/A is far, FAR above what one usually sees for an old cowboy Colt ….but suffice to say this (…and this is a VERY important fact!!)…that since many, if not most Single Actions have been restored, enhanced, and/or “juiced-up” to some degree, one should always take the possibility of some degree of restoration into consideration. This gun has been valued and priced with that possibility in mind, because if I were 100% certain that this gun was pure-as-the-driven-snow, it would easily be a $6,000-$7000 gun. This is a very good opportunity to own a really decent major piece of the most highly sought after Wild West frontier cartridge handgun …and one of the fastest value appreciators in the antique gun field. VG++ $4750 SOLD Antique: Yes |
