#4891 Colt 1860 Army, First Richards conversion, 57XX serial range, 44COLT centerfire
Description: #4891 Colt 1860 Army, First Richards conversion, 57XX serial range, 44COLT centerfire with Very Good to Fine bore, being a 7-8 on a scale of 10. Tight smooth action. Metal is an overall smooth even grey-brown patina showing just light to medium wear and even some FAINT traces of blue and faded case colors in the more protected areas. The barrel address is VG+, the cylinder scene is about 75-80% intact. All the serial numbers are still visible, except the wedge which has no serial number. This is the later 1st Richards that has the dual patent dates instead of the COLTS PATENT lines on the lower left frame and is numbered in its own serial range rather than the end of the percussion range. Grips are very good and even have faint traces of varnish remaining. They fit like a glove, but do have several age cracks on the right grip. Made between 1872-1878, these so-called conversions have become rather scarce in todays collecting circles ….and yet they were almost as common in the early to mid 1870 “Cowboy” era as the famed Colt Single Action. They were less expensive, but were only chambered for the 44COLT cartridge and while this was a decent round, it paled in comparison to the 45COLT in the new solid framed Single Action Army. In most cases, these “Old Model Armies” were never percussion revolvers to start out with, but just assembled as cartridge guns and using up old percussion unused parts. Handsome old gun in VG condition. $3150. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
