#4906 Colt 1851 Navy Model, 7-1/2”x36cal, 45XXX (1856) 3rd Variation
Description: #4906 Colt 1851 Navy Model, 7-1/2”x36cal, 45XXX (1856) 3rd Variation, and matching numbers except the wedge is unnumbered and the cylinder number is no longer visible due to wear. Scarce “large iron-guard New York” marked Navy which was likely assembled from the unfinished parts that were returned from the closed London facilities and ultimately used for domestic guns. These so-called “Black Navies” were also purchased by the U.S.military prior to the Civil War, although this particular one does not have any military markings. Smooth even grayish brown exterior with VG barrel address and serial number markings, although no wedge number, no cylinder scene or SN remaining, and the “COLT’S PATENT” frame marking looks to have been struck at an angle and thus missing the “PATENT” wording. Decent action and the bore is VG with just light scale and good rifling; about a “7” on a scale of 10. VG/VG+ original grips with average wear, the right side with a flea-bite chip at the toe. The rammer and frame have some faint traces of cloudy grey swirls of case hardening (see photos). All-in-all, this is a very decent looking old Navy that very likely saw the entire Civil War as a personal weapon of some soldier or officer. VG $2245 Antique: Yes Price: $2245 Contact Seller |
