Colt S/A 7-1/2”x45COLT, 140XXX range (1891)
Description: #4947 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x45COLT, 140XXX range (1891), VG bore (7+). The action is good and tight, but seems to be missing the 3rd click on the post-1906 vintage hammer, so the hammer has obviously been replaced at some time in the past. The metal is very nice overall condition for a gun that is 126 years old and it has almost no pitting or serious wear anywhere. It retains good barrel address, frame markings and 70% coverage of a thin blue-greyish patina with 20% density. The cylinder and straps are slightly less patina and show more dulling of the very thin blue from probable cleaning of the cylinder and handling on the grip straps. Very fine hard rubber Eagleless grips. The overall look on this 1891 S/A is much above what one usually sees for an old cowboy Colt ….but suffice to say this (…and this is a VERY important fact!!)…that since many, if not most Single Actions have been restored, enhanced, and/or “juiced-up” to some degree, one should always take the possibility of some degree of restoration into consideration. This gun has been valued and priced with that possibility in mind because if I were 100% certain that this gun was pure-as-the-driven-snow, it would easily be a $5500-$6,000 gun. This is a good opportunity to own a really decent major piece of the most sought after Wild West frontier cartridge handgun …and one of the fastest value appreciators in the antique gun field.
