#4991 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x 44WCF,
46XXX(1878), and having an exceptionally good bore!
Description: #4991 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x 44WCF, 46XXX(1878), and having an exceptionally good bore! The owner of this early Single Action obviously took really good care of his weapon as it has about a 9 bore on a scale of 10!! The action is tight, but the correct long checked hammer is missing the two center “clicks”, so while it still is shootable as it is, it could be hazardous and therefore not recommended without having a hammer job done by a qualified gunsmith. The exterior is a smooth mottled brownish-grey overall with medium wear and no appreciable pitting, just some light scattered “salt & pepper” freckling scattered here and there. The one-piece raised carved “Bulls-Head” walnut grips are about excellent with NO wear, so obviously are NO doubt replacements, but they fit pretty good and are very “showy”. This S/A was one of the earliest 44WCFs, and made just after the Colt company started using the etched panel CFSS barrel logo, and if you have the eyeballs of Superman or a bald eagle, you can faintly see the remainder of the panel outline, but highly unlikely (unless you actually ARE Superman) that you can read any of that logo script. Also, if you have read some of my other ads and and noted my penchant for buyers to consider that many Colt S/As as having been “juiced up” then in THIS case, aside of the grips, this gun does appear to be totally virgin in that respect. VG-VG+ as described. $3375 SOLD Antique: Yes |
