1861 Colt Navy Factory Conversion Revolver HIGH CONDITION Nickel .38 CF Excellent Rare Original 1870's Wild West Pistol
Description:
Very Rare High Condition Model 1861 Colt Navy Richards-Mason Factory Conversion Revolver, Nickel Plated, .38 Centerfire, mfg. 1872-1878. This is a very low production Colt in outstanding original condition. Only 2,200 of these were made in two distinct variations consisting of approximately 1,000 manufactured and serial numbered as new guns utilizing previously unfinished and unassembled parts and 1,200 altered from percussion series arms. This example is one of the true factory built guns which did not start life in percussion form. Overall the pistol retains just about 95% original nickel finish largely turned frosty with bright fire bluing on all screws. Original wood grips fit flawlessly with no damage and retain 95% factory varnish with light handling marks. Crystal clear naval battle cylinder scene, two-line patent dates, "38 CAL" marked triggerguard, and matching serial number "2734" stamped on frame, barrel, cylinder, triggerguard, and backstrap. Barrel address is clear as well excepting for "ADDRESS" being a tad light due to the use of an older percussion series die. Original hammer, trigger, loading gate, silver blade front sight, and all original fire blued screws. The action is perfectly crisp and functions like new. Cylinder locks up tight with only the slightest play. Barrel is rock solid tight against the frame with no movement. Excellent bore with near mirror bright rifling front to back and only very light frosting toward the muzzle. These '61 Navy conversions are notoriously difficult to find at all and nearly impossible to find with any condition. Few were made and they typically saw hard use. This one did not. A truly exceptional Colt factory conversion that would be hard to improve upon.
