Description: c1895 HOUSTON SHIPPED Antique COLT Single Action Army Revolver .41 SAA Factory Lettered Colt Peacemaker! Here we present an antique Colt Single Action Army Revolver, manufactured in 1895 in Hartford, Connecticut, and shipped to Dunlay & Geisler in Houston, Texas along with 2 others on April 30 of that year. The Colt archive letter confirms the configuration with a .41 Colt chambering, 4 ¾ inch barrel, blue finish, and rubber grips. Total production numbers for the Colt Single Action Army reached 357,859. The production numbers for the .41 caliber reached only 19,676, making this model one of the scarcer models out there. Dunlay & Geisler were at 410 & 412 Travis Street in Houston and were a gun and ammunition shop. Though Colt enjoyed the largest contracts of any handgun maker during the American Civil War, it had to rely on its array of percussion fired revolvers, namely the 1860 Army until the Smith & Wesson owned Rollin White Patent expired in 1869. This enabled them to begin making revolvers with completely bored through cylinder chambers to utilize modern metallic cartridge ammunition in the most effective manner. In 1869, Colt began development of a suitable cartridge revolver in earnest, first coming out with a number of conversions for their percussion lines, until 1872 when they debuted what was to become the Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army in the 1872 U.S. Trials. It won, and became the Army’s revolver of choice. It also became the sidearm of choice for many others like cowboys, guards, lawmen, crooks, shopkeepers, and all manner of civilians. The overall condition is very good. The action is strong and tight. The bore is in good shape with nice rifling. The right grip has a thin crack all the way through. Both grips show wear.
