Description: Colt 1889 U.S. Navy Double Action 38 Colt 85% Blue and Fire Blue on the hammer and trigger 6” Barrel, Manufactured in Hartford Connecticut in 1889, on top of barrel is a two line Colt address on the side is 38 Colt D.A., mechanically is in good shape in single action and double action, comes with original two piece wood grips. The bore is good. Serial Number 3526 This is one of the first 5,000 double action Colt Manufactured for the U.S. Navy in 1889 and in 1895 the Navy sent them back to Colt for refurbishing and replacement of worn parts and upgrade them too the new 1894 Model. “ANTIQUE” Ship right to your Door” PLEASE SEE PHOTOS FOR CONDTION The Colt Model 1889 was the first double-action revolver with a swing-out cylinder, released by a sliding latch. This design had two advantages over previous designs as it enabled fast loading but also maintained the strength of a solid frame. The Model 1889 was chambered for the .41 Long Colt and 41 short Colt carridges, .38 Long Colt and .38 Short Colt cartridges. The Navy version was blued, and had a six-inch barrel. It was manufactured with Wood grips. Civilian versions had either a blue or nickel finish, and had Hard Rubber grips. Sometimes it can have Ivory or Pearl grips. The Model 1889 differed from earlier Colt revolvers in that its cylinder rotated counterclockwise instead of clockwise.
