Rarest of all the early Colt cartridge revolvers, this 2nd Model Richards .44 Army was manufactured for only a short time in 1872 and 1873, with approximately 400 to 500 being produced. They incorporated the new, hammer mounted firing pin and sight notch of the Richards Mason but were the last conversion to use the 1860 Army barrel. Being one of the earliest metallic cartridge big bore revolvers, they were very popular on the American frontier and their survival rate is low. Rarer still are period holsters that will accomodate their 8 inch barrels. This gun is mechanically perfect and does retain some of its original nickel finish. The Slim Jim style holster with protective flap and buckle tie down shows decorative checkering and border tooling, an unusual calf skin lining, and a reinforced cup at the toe. A nice early rig with lots of character. PRICE: $4,500 We are Antique & Modern Firearms in Lexington, KY, dealer of fine firearms since 1974.
