COLT CAVALRY MODEL 1873 U.S. CAVALRY REVOLVER W/KOPEC LETTER - NEW YORK MILITIA - "FINE
Description: Very Fine example if a Colt U.S. Cavalry Revolver that was refurbished for the Militia. Manufactured in 1891 for the U.S. and subsequently reissued to the New York Militia. The revolver is one of the Colt Single Action U.S. Cavalry Model revolvers in the serial number range 131187-140361 that were inspected by Ordnance Sub-Inspector Rinaldo A. Carr. Carr's sub-inspector "RAC" mark is found on the barrel, frame, and cylinder. "P" proofmarks are stamped on the cylinder and barrel. The left side of the frame has the two-line patent dates marking followed by "U.S." The top of the barrel has the one-line Hartford address. The ejector rod has a bullseye head. A "K" Colt inspection mark is stamped below the serial number on the trigger guard and back strap. New York Militia markings are on the butt ("C100" with the second "0" stamped over a "1") and on the left side of the grip ("245 TROOP G NY"). This revolver is listed by serial number as a New York Militia issued Cavalry Model Revolver in Kopec and Fenn's "Colt Cavalry & Artillery Revolvers…a Continuing Study" on page 85. In the included letter of authentication, John Kopec confirms the revolver was listed in the survey, issued to the New York militia as assigned to Troop C, NY and hammer, trigger and ejector rod housing are replacements. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder and barrel. The revolver is documented as well as pictured in Keith Cochran's "Colt Cavalry, Artillery and Militia Revolvers" on page 77. The condition is "Fine". The barrel and ejector rod housing retain 75% factory refurbished blue finish, the cylinder retains 60% blue finish, and the grip straps retain 40% blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the balance. 40% case colors remain on the frame and hammer. The grip is also fine with high edge wear, numerous scattered minor dings and scratches and legible New York Militia marking. Mechanically excellent. A solid representative example of a New York Militia U.S. Colt Cavalry Model Revolver. Buyer pays $20.00 shipping to lower 48 states. I accept USPS Money Orders or Bank Cashier's Check. Will accept Personal Check, with shipping hold. 3% Credit Card Fee! Three day, non-firing, non-disassembly, inspection period. If returned, for any reason, full refund, less shipping.
