Colt New Line Cop and Thug Revolver US Express Company Marked
Description: These Cop & Thug revolvers are admittedly among the most attractive antique Colts and are scarce. Less than 4,000 are believed to have been manufactured between 1882 and 1886. They come in a number of variations including three calibers, several barrel lengths, and two standard finish options making them a unique model to collect. This example was manufactured in 1883 and has a 4 1/2 inch barrel with the two-line address on top, a fixed round blade front sight, and ejector on the right. "38 CAL" is marked on the left side of the frame under the cylinder, and the grips have "COLT" up top, checkering, the "Cop & Thug" engagement scene on the bottom, and the matching serial number on the inside. The main serial number location is the butt. U S X is stamped on right sight of frame and the serial number is stamped on the left side, indicating the revolver was once owned by the U.S. Express Co. They were one of the main express companies until they closed in 1914 after the U.S. Postal Service started parcel service in addition to regular mail. Similar markings have been found on other revolvers including multiple Smith & Wesson models. Retains about 15% of it's original nickel finish. Some nice fire blue remains on hammer and both grips are in nice condition. The bore is in very nice condition. Action functions very nicely and revolver indexes as it should. Here is a chance to own a piece of history at a very reasonable price. I will entertain trades and I also offer a layaway (please contact me for the full details). Please feel free to ask questions.
