DAVID F. CLARK Inspected Antique U.S. COLT ARTILLERY Model .45 SAA Revolver SCARCE Revolver from the Spanish-American War Period
Description: DAVID F. CLARK Inspected Antique U.S. COLT ARTILLERY Model .45 SAA Revolver SCARCE Revolver from the Spanish-American War Period Here we present an antique Colt Single Action Army Revolver Artillery Model, with the frame made in 1880. The Colt Single Action Army, or SAA, is a classic “six-shooter” that is a worldwide icon of the United States of America and the Western Frontier. Wielded by both the worst of men and the best, the famous Single Action Army is also well-known as the Peacemaker. Introduced in 1873, the basic design remained, with a few interruptions, in production and is still manufactured today by Colt and other companies. The Artillery or Springfield Armory Model of the SAA is a period (1895-1903) armory or factory refinished gun to extend U.S. military service. Only about 17,000 of these refurbished guns were completed. In all but the rarest variant of the already rare Artillery Model, the serial numbers will be mixed. U.S. military purchased SAAs are among the most sought after historic sidearms of the era, having been used in action in the Spanish-American War and the Philippine-American War by the U.S. Army. They were originally issued with 7½" barrels in .45 Colt. Most of these guns, as this one is, had the barrels shortened to 5½". Though Colt enjoyed the largest contracts of any handgun maker during the American Civil War, it had to rely on its array of percussion fired revolvers, namely the 1860 Army until the Smith & Wesson owned Rollin White Patent expired in 1869. This enabled them to begin making revolvers with completely bored through cylinder chambers in order to utilize modern metallic cartridge ammunition in the most effective manner. In 1869, Colt began development of a suitable cartridge revolver in earnest, first coming out with a number of conversions for their percussion lines, until 1872 when they debuted what was to become the Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army in the 1872 U.S. Trials. Needless to say, it won, and became the Army’s revolver of choice. It also became the sidearm of choice for many others like cowboys, guards, lawmen, crooks, shopkeepers and all manner of civilians. The overall condition is very good. The barrel and cylinder both have a lot of blue finish remaining as they are replacements. The action is excellent with 4 clicks and the cylinder indexes and locks up nicely. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The grips are smooth and solid. A great old Colt! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5-1/2 inch. Caliber: .45 Colt Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $3995 #220801 SOLD Antique: Yes |
