Here Ancestry Guns presents a Scarce British Proofed C&R Early Model Colt “New Service” Flattop Target Model Double Action Revolver, made in 1907 in Hartford, Connecticut. This revolver was conceived to be a serious workhorse for the military, police, and anyone who wanted a large double action revolver in a caliber such as .45 Colt.

The United States military would go on to adopt versions that would be known as the Model 1909 and the Model 1917 for the Marines and the Army. Other chamberings that were available throughout the period of manufacture (1898-1946) were .38-40 WCF, .44 Russian, .44-40 WCF, .44 Special, .45 Long Colt, .455 Webley (Eley), and later .45 ACP, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, along with other less common calibers. They would see use in the Spanish American War, the World Wars, even in Vietnam.

The overall condition is very fine. Original blue is preserved. Excellent action. Bright bore maintains crisp rifling. Markings are sharp. Fine grips with strong checkering. British proofs in the cylinder flutes.
