EARLY 1869 Antique COLT Pocket CARTRIDGE Revolver
Description: EARLY 1869 Antique COLT Pocket CARTRIDGE Revolver Made in 1869 Out of 1849 Pocket Parts Here we present an antique Colt Cartridge Pocket Revolver, made in 1869 in Hartford, Connecticut. About 10,000 were produced altogether. These were made from new-old stock Colt 1849 Pocket Revolver parts. Though metallic cartridge revolvers had been invented in the late-1850s, Smith & Wesson owned the Rollin White Patent and had a virtual monopoly on the “modern” revolver. The patent finally ended in 1869 enabling other companies such as Colt to begin designing their own cartridge revolvers. The Colt 1849 Pocket was extremely popular and a logical choice for an early cartridge revolver given all the new-old stock parts available. This allowed Colt to get a toehold back in the market while they spent the next several years developing what would become a legend, the Single Action Army. This little revolver did a fine job as a self-defense handgun for the average citizen in 19th Century America. This small revolver carried 5 shots of .38 caliber centerfire ammunition. The cylinder bears the same roll-marked scene as the 1849 Pocket. It depicts a violent stage coach robbery complete with armed desperados, rearing horses and armed good guys protecting a woman framed in the doorway of the coach. The left side of the frame is marked with patent dates 1871 and 1872. The frame is also marked “.38 CAL”. The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces have a flaking nickel finish with a dark gray patina elsewhere. The markings are legible. The serial numbers match. The walnut grips are in great shape. The bore is dark with good rifling. The action on this revolver is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-1/2 inches. Caliber: .38 Centerfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1600 #7221 SOLD Antique: Yes |
