Low Two Digit Colt New Line Revolver .38 Caliber
Description: Sold Very Early Two Digit Serial Number 32 manufactured in 1874 in .38 Rimfire caliber. If you like collecting desirable Colts or low serial numbers, here is your chance. Serial number is matching on barrel and grips, the cylinder has the serial number 36 on it. You know this was a factory mistake and oversight. The Colt New Line .38 Caliber Revolver, also called the “Pet Colt”, was manufactured c. 1874-1880, with a total quantity of about 5,500 in .38 rimfire and .38 centerfire calibers. This example features a 5-shot cylinder, German silver front site blade, and void loading gate. Barrel length is 2-1/4” and with bird head style grips of varnished rosewood. Nickel plated finish (common), and a fire blued hammer and trigger. Two line barrel markings standard, variants of: COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO.///HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. Left side of the barrel etched: COLT NEW 38 (except on the earliest, low numbered specimens). On the left side of the frame: 38 CAL.; if C also present, the letter indicates “centerfire.” The .38 caliber New Line is an attractive model to collectors because of the relatively large caliber, and the limited production. This falls obviously in the First Model range, in the serial range 1 - 3200; having short cylinder flutes, the cylinder stop slots on the outside, and no patent date markings. Overall a nice above average Early New Line with a super low serial number. Overall finish is a nice smooth gray / brown patina with traces of original finish in protected areas. Functions nicely and locks up tight. As mentioned before, fire blue still present on hammer and trigger. Grips are in good condition. Bore is what you expect to see from a gun of this vintage. Again the main importance of this revolver is the serial number, 32. This is must have for the Colt Collector or serial number enthusiast. Please feel free to ask questions. SOLD Antique: Yes |
