Description: SAMUEL P. COLT FACTORY PRESENTATION MODEL 1877 LIGHTNING .38 CAL. REVOLVER. Six shot, 3 ½” barrel Double Action with all matching serial numbers in the 67XXX range manufactured in 1888. Back strap factory engraved “W.H. SMITH. ESQ./COMPLIMENTS OF SAML. P. COLT”. Samuel Pomeroy Colt, the wealthy industrialist nephew of Col. Colt was the founder of the United States Rubber Company (Uniroyal) as well as the Industrial Trust Company one of the largest Trusts of the era. As president of U.S. Rubber Company he was heavily involved in promoting the company around the world and William Henry Smith, Esq. was one of the most powerful figures in British politics of the late 1800’s. As having been Secretary of State for War, First Lord of the Admiralty, First Lord of the Treasury and Leader of the House of Commons few rivaled his political power during the era. An obvious influential recipient for a gift of a Colt revolver from the famous nephew of Col. Colt himself. Very handsome example it has been factory re-blued overall with factory re-finish “STAR” stamp on right rear side of the trigger guard. All the bright blue remains. Excellent original factory pearl grips. Perfect working order and excellent bore and chambers. Perfect markings and inscription. Only a few examples exist of Colt revolvers presented by Samuel P.
