SUPERB CONDITION 1877 LIGHTNING WITH EARLY ONE PIECE ROSEWOOD GRIPS, MADE 1880

Description:
SUPERB CONDITION, RARE 1877 LIGHTNING DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER WITH EARLY ONE PIECE ROSEWOOD GRIPS, .38 COLT, 3 1/2" EJECTORLESS STOREKEEPER/SHERIFF MODEL BLUE & CASE COLOR, #23XXX, MADE 1880. Only the first few years of production had checkered rosewood grips and German silver front sights. After this these were fitted with the more common Colt hard rubber grips and a blued or nickel plated front sight. This beautiful example has excellent grips with sharp checkering. The barrel also retains the full acid etched panel that clearly reads "COLT D.A. 38." The barrel top has the correct two line address and the left side of the frame has the sharp patent date markings. The barrel retains most of the deep blue with  some very light areas of thinning. The cylinder also shows nearly all the high polish blue with minor wear only. Even the grip straps and butt retain nearly all the original blue with some light thinning on the extreme bottom of the trigger guard bow. Has excellent bright fire blue on the hammer back and much on the trigger. The frame shows good case color that is darkening somewhat with more vivid color on the top strap and protected areas. Excellent cylinder pin and screws that still show some good fire blue. Matching numbers and "38 CAL" stamping on the trigger guard side. Exc. action and bright bore. Very hard to find these early Lightnings and rarely are they found this nice!
