+ U.S. Civil War / Named +
Description: This is a very cool all-matching Colt Model 1860 Army .44 caliber cap and ball revolver made during the American Civil War. It is marked with what is assumed is the former soldier's name that carried it on the butt. This is THE MOST FAMOUS of the Civil War revolvers used in numerous battles across the country by both sides of the conflict. Every Civil War weapons collection should have one to be considered legitimate. This particular example is named, with the owner's name marked into the butt of the pistol two times, once with the first initials and last name, then later with the last name only much deeper. "Pleadwell" is the last name, and it appears that "F" was the first initial but we will look with some higher magnification to verify that. We would imagine that this name is unique enough that it might be easier than most to find the possible prior owner. That definitely adds some appeal to this history-rich piece. More description to follow. While this Colt is functional, it should not be fired due to it's age and dimished structural integrity.
