Antique COLT Model 1860 Army RICHARDS-MASON Conversion .44 Colt CF Revolver RARE & Highly Sought 1 of 2,100 Conversion Colt
Description: Antique COLT Model 1860 Army RICHARDS-MASON Conversion .44 Colt CF Revolver RARE & Highly Sought 1 of 2,100 Conversion Colt Here we present an antique Colt Model 1860 Army Richards-Mason Conversion Revolver, manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut. Approximately 2,100 of these Colt Model 1860 Richards-Mason conversions are reported to have been manufactured circa 1877-1878 as cartridge revolvers using a mix of percussion revolver parts on hand and newly fabricated components. They are one of the scarcest Colt cartridge conversion revolver variations and were manufactured concurrently with the famous Colt Single Action Army. The Richards-Mason Conversion was an innovative effort to develop a suitable cartridge revolver after the Smith & Wesson patent for bored-through cylinders expired in 1869, ending S&W's dominance over this design. Colt employees Charles Richards and William Mason successfully converted many of the surplus 1860 Army Revolvers from the Civil War era that Colt still had in stock. These converted revolvers are now known as “Richards-Mason Conversions.” Their work laid the groundwork for the design of the legendary Colt Single Action Army and contributed to Colt's victory in the 1872 U.S. Trials. In fact, the influence of the Single Action Army can be seen in the design of the Richards-Mason converted 1860 Army revolvers. The overall condition is fine. This example has been expertly refinished. Excellent action. Dim bore with strong rifling. Fine antique ivory grip. Markings are sharp. The cylinder scene is intact. Numbers match. The wedge is not numbered. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8 inches. Caliber: .44 Colt Centerfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast.
