1904 mfr. COLT BISLEY Model Single Action Army Revolver .32-20 WCF C&R SAA
Description: 1904 mfr. COLT BISLEY Model Single Action Army Revolver .32-20 WCF C&R SAA Here we present a C&R Colt Bisley Model Single Action Army Revolver in .32-20 Winchester, or .32 WCF, manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut in 1904. The Colt Bisley was introduced in 1894 and continued until 1912 as an accurate target pistol. The name Bisley came from the famous firing range in Bisley, England. The Colt Bisley can be distinguished by its more curvaceous grip frame, the wider hammer spur, and the wider trigger. Bisley revolvers were serial-numbered in the range of 156300–331916, in the same sequence as the other Single Action Army revolvers. Bisley revolvers after No. 161,376 had “BISLEY MODEL” with the caliber stamped on the left side of the barrel, as is this example. The most common were in the American calibers of .32-20, .38-40, .45 Colt, .44-40, .41 Long Colt, and also in the British calibers of .450 Eley and .455 Eley. A total number of 44,350 Bisley revolvers were manufactured. Most Bisley Standard Model revolvers shipped to a United States address were not used for target shooting, but for self-defense, because the grip and hammer were ideal for fast shooting. In 1869, Colt’s began development of a suitable cartridge revolver in earnest, first coming out with a number of conversions for their percussion lines, until 1872 when they debuted what was to become the Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army in the 1872 U.S. Trials. Needless to say, it won and became the Army’s revolver of choice. It also became the sidearm of choice for many others like cowboys, guards, lawmen, crooks, shopkeepers and all manner of civilians. These pistols made excellent companions to rifles at the time as they were chambered for the same ammunition, meaning that the user only had to keep one type to feed both guns. The overall condition is good. It wears an old refinish. The action has all 4 clicks and holds all 3 positions. The cylinder locks up nicely. The bore is well-rifled and in good condition. There is a chip in the toe of the left grip that is smoothed over from use and the grips are in good overall shape. The numbers match on the frame, grip frame, and trigger guard. Own the original!
