BISLEY IN DESIRABLE .44-40 CALIBER WITH 4 ¾” BARREL, #302XXX, MADE 1907
Description: BISLEY IN DESIRABLE .44-40 CALIBER WITH 4 ¾” BARREL, #302XXX, MADE 1907. Of the 44,350 standard Bisley Models made, only 6,803 were in .44-40 caliber (in all barrel lengths). The Bisley Model was especially popular in the Southwestern United States and are often seen in old photos that were taken there. The .44-40s were pretty much cowboy guns and saw much harder usage than the more common .32-20 caliber guns. This one shows considerable holster carry which is easily determined by the heavy wear spot on the left side of the muzzle. This example has all matching numbers, exc. screw heads and grips that fit perfectly. The grips show normal wear with only some tiny edge flakes at the bottom edge that are shallow and barely noticeable. Basically, this is a smooth, uncleaned and un-messed with gray-brown revolver with some good blue in the protected areas around the trigger guard, upper and lower sections of the ejector housing flutes, in the protected areas of the barrel, in the cylinder flutes etc. The hammer has the correct four clicks and locks up fine, front sight is not filed or altered, has the correct two line barrel address and other markings including the worn but legible (BISLEY MODEL) over COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER marking on the barrel side (only used in .44-40 caliber), and retains an excellent, sharp bore! This is an attractive frontier Colt with a lot of Old West character!
