Colt Bisley Custom Target
Description: Colt Bisley custom target revolver. First of all I do not know who did the custom work to this revolver, I can only guess! According to the Colt factory letter this Bisley started out in 1900 as a .45 lc 5 ½” blue revolver. It is "step" chambered for .32-20 but will accomodate .32 S&W Short or .32 S&W Long or even a .32 Long Colt. Regardless of the caliber this is a fully custom target Bisley revolver featuring an amazing amount of very fine machine work. Some of the work was to lighten the revolver, some to accurize it and some for improved function. The work mirrors the customization of the Elmer Keith SAA that sold for over $250,000 last year and other features look to be from the same thought processes but with different way to build the mousetrap! On this revolver, please take a close look at the cylinder pin release and try to imagine the work and engineering it took to make the finished product. We know that Sedgley & Houchins were involved in the Keith #5 but I would guess that they may also have been involved in this Bisley. If not, now we know that there we other fabulous gunsmith/machinists, back in the day, who were customizing Colt SAA revolvers and Bisley’s. Granted this is not an engraved, Ivory gripped, Elmer Keith provenanced Colt but it is a very unique and interesting Bisley. SN: 194073 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
