GREAT RARITY IN THE COBRA MODEL! THIS IS A FIVE (5) INCH .38 SPECIAL THAT WAS PART OF A SPECIAL GOVERNMENT CONTRACT FOR VENEZUELA, MADE 1958, has the Venezuelan crest on the left side of the frame with "POLICIA DEL DISTRITO FEDERAL" on the back strap and number "823" on the butt, I've only seen one other of these in 30 years of searching for unusual/rare Colts, according to the new book SEVEN SERPENTS The History of Colt's Snake Guns, author Gurney Brown rates the rarity of each of these "snake guns" from 1-5 depending on finish, barrel length, caliber etc. He rates the Cobra with 5" barrel at "5+" for rarity. The steel barrel and cylinder still retain fine dull/aged blue, the light weight alloy frame is getting silvery as the black finish put on these parts didn't hold up well, exc. markings, exc. mech and bore, fine grips show wear mainly on the right panel as is typical of holster carry where that side is exposed and gets rubbed, al markings fine including the left side barrel marking "COBRA" and the Venezuela crest, has small import markings on the bottom of the barrel mostly hidden by the ejector rod, the most complete Colt collections don't have one of these 5" Cobras!
