Colt ~ Montana Territory Centennial Single Action Army ~ .45 Colt
Description: In 1964, Colt released a Single Action Army to commemorate both the centennial of the Montana Territory and the Diamond Jubilee of Montana statehood. This beautiful Second Generation Colt SAA is marked with "1889 -- DIAMOND JUBILEE STATEHOOD -- 1964" on the right side of the barrel and "1864--MONTANA TERRITORY CENTENNIAL -- 1964" on the left. This is a low serial number commemorative and comes with walnut grip panels with gold-plated Colt emblems, unlike the higher serial numbers that came with Pearlite grips. This Colt also comes with two letters that detail the unique history of this particular revolver. See photos. It was originally purchased by Harold "Pop" Morey, who was President of Spartan Aircraft Company, and was sent to George F. Getty, II, the oldest son of J. Paul Getty, founder of Getty Oil. It was later owned by Delford Smith, the late founder and owner of Evergreen International Airlines, which gained notoriety as a CIA front from 1975 until 2013. Delford Smith also founded the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, current home of the "Spruce Goose," the largest wooden airplane ever made.
