SOLD..Antique Colt 1861 Navy Navy Conversion. Please refer to the excellent book by the late R Bruce McDowell for the complete history and information on these guns. Just way to much to explain here on these fairly hard to find guns... Here is a quite rarer 1861 Colt Navy Navy conversion to .38 long Colt center fire caliber. Has the standard 7 1/2” barrel.. Just a few thousand of these guns converted by Colt after the Civil War. This one is the Navy Navy marked with the inspectors initials on the bottom of the barrel RWM and the anchor. This gun has never been cleaned on or messed with. S/N 8367 and all matching but the cylinder which is absolutely correct for this model. Two numbers on the side of the cylinder that do not match and no numbers on the rear face of the cylinder as some are found... Loading gate with the numbers 367 matching. The mechanics are excellent. The gun is crisp and tight as new. No side to side wobble at the cylinder to arbor pin fit. Hammer notches are perfect and positive. The bore is excellent and bright with just very little and minor specks of roughness. The chambers are perfect and smooth. This gun does have some finish remaining. Very good traces of blue on the barrel around the wedge and along the ejector housing. Has some nice visible case colors on the frame mostly on the left side and some on the hammer as well. The balance of the guns finish a dark brown untouched patina with a couple small spots of light pin pricks but nothing bad or detracting at all.. Still retains the original ejector housing , rod and head. These are often found with these replaced as they were easily broken. This one is all original. Markings are all very good. Barrel address was hard to photograph because of the heavy patina but looks much better in hand than the picture shows. It is all very readable. The cylinder has just traces of scene on the bottom and just showing the waves. No ships or sails visible.. The grips are very good and fit perfectly. They do show some small minor spots of repair with some sort of filler??? They could look better with a little coloring added to the small spots. No splits or cracks and not all beat up on the bottom from being used as a hammer. Untouched front sight.
