Colt 1861 Navy, Navy Marked, Richards-Mason Conversion, 38 Long Colt Centerfire,
Description: Colt 1861 Navy, Navy Conversion to 38 Long Colt Centerfire, serial # 4321 with the original 4 digits of the percussion serial # showing on the outside of the cylinder. This specific revolver was one assembled from percussion parts on hand and was ordered & inspected by the New York Navy Yard - marked "R.W.M." with the Navy Anchor on the underside of the barrel. Richard W. Meade was the US Navy inspector at that time. A total of 8774 of these were ordered by the US government and about 1/2 were inspected by Commander Meade and marked as such. Correct 7.5" round barrel. Very good bore. Serial # matches on bottom of grip, trigger guard, frame, barrel, rear face of cylinder (typical of the conversions), and arbor. Loading gate is marked with an assembly #. Strong blue on the hammer and frame with about 15% case color present. Brass trigger guard and grip have very nice color and have not been cleaned or polished. Barrel and cylinder are patina. Action is tight and indexes perfectly each time. A slight amount of play exists at the barrel/frame junction. Correct unmarked wedge typical to these conversions. Original wood grips show wear and usage dings but have never been cleaned, sanded or refinished. No play to cylinder when hammer is cocked and ready to fire. Correct 2-line patent date stamped over the "Colts Patent" on the left side of the frame. "36 Cal" still shows on the side of the brass trigger guard and the # "2" shows at the top of the front of the tripper loop. No traces of cylinder scene remain but the "Colts Patent" is clear. All in all a good, honest Colt 1861 Navy US Navy conversion that is sure to increase in value over time. 315.251.4799 with questions or concerns.
