Colt " U.S. " Richards Conversion, Cal. .44 Stetson
Description:
One of the most desirable and hardest to find of the Colt Conversions, this Ainsworth inspected U.S. Cavalry Model U.S. Richards Conversion may be the best one in existance. Approximately 1,200 1860 Army revolvers were transferred from storage at Springfiel Armory to Colt Firearms in 1871 for conversion to metallic cartridge by the Richards system. Of this total, 55 were assembled with the experimental Locke safety notch cylinder, nine were Test guns, and three others were inspectors samples. They were well liked after being issued to Cavalry units serving on the Western Frontier. On June 30th, 1872, the chief of Ordnance wrote, "Reports from the field are all favorable to the use of revolvers using metallic cartridges, a number of which have been issued to Cavalry Service". Most of these U.S. Richards Colts saw hard use throughout the 1870's and it is rare to find one today with any original finish. This gun is exceptional in that it retains approximately 90% plus original blue and 60% case colors, and near perfect grips. Check out the naval battle scene roll engraved on the cylinder, beautiful. Truly a fantastic example of its type. PRICE: $32,500 We are Antique & Modern Firearms in Lexington, KY, dealer of fine firearms since 1974. PH. 859-276-1419 We Buy, Sell and Trade Firearms & Knives. Have a Individual Firearm, Firearms Collection, or Firearms Estate to sell, let us know, we can buy or consignment sell it for you. NOTE:No additional fee for a Credit Card payment.
