Rare Colt 1851 Navy, Navy-Marked, Richards-Mason Conversion w/Holster, 1 of only 600
Description: This is quite a find!! It is an original Colt 1851 Navy that was converted from 36 caliber percussion to 38 centerfire using the Richards-Mason conversion system. Serial # 89451 was originally made in 1859 and is a "Navy-Navy" as evidenced by the "US" marking under the "COLT PATENT" marking on the left side of the frame, the iron back strap and grip strap, and the "U.S.N." stamping on the bottom of the grip strap. It also has rack or unit # of "G85" on the right grip. The cylinder shows traces of the original battle scene and the last 4 digits of the original percussion serial # used before the conversion. The rear face of the cylinder has the numbers "451" to match the last 3 digits of the serial # of the revolver after the conversion. The loading gate and arbor have matching assembly # 128. Common of these factory conversions, the wedge is not numbered. Top of the barrel has the Hartford address. Of the approximately 6000 conversions ordered from Colt directly by the US Navy, only about 600 will be in this serial # range and have the Hartford address !! The underside of the barrel has the "R.W.M. with anchor" marking showing shipment and inspection by the New York Navy Yard / Commander Richard W. Meade. Left side of the frame has the correct 2-line patent markings put on the conversions by the Colt factory. Overall condition is patina with some bright blue in the protected areas of the barrel by the wedge screw and rammer. Good original case colors show in the cutout of the shield. Original walnut grips have never been refinished or sanded, do show typical wear and usage. Bore is good with strong rifling and typical scattered black powder pitting. Action is very strong and tight. Cylinder has a minimal amount of movement and indexes perfectly every time. A 100% original 1851 Navy-Navy Colt conversion that you'll definitely want to add to your collection. Comes with a period Slim Jim holster that is missing the flap and shows some cracking and typical wear to the leather (it is not marked). Please check all the pictures as I included important text from two different Colt resource books that have critical information to match all the features of the collectible revolver. 315.251.4799 with questions or concerns.
