SUPER CONDITION Colt 1862 Pocket Police Type 1 Conversion 38 Rimfire
Description: HIGH CONDITION Colt 1862 Pocket Police Type 1 conversion in 38 Rimfire, serial number 673. The Type 1 conversion consists of the type A frame with loading gate and internal gate spring, fluted Pocket Police cylinder, ejector rod with housing, COLTS PATENT on frame, type A pinned hammerand New York/U.S. America barrel address. Approximately only 5,000 with the type A frame were made from percussion parts on hand but had never been assembled as percussion guns and thus given their own serial number range. Correct walnut grips, 4.5" round barrel, with matching serial number on back of cylinder, bottom of grip, trigger guard, frame and barrel. Matching assembly number 665 appears on loading gate and cylinder pin. Wedge, as commonly found on the conversions, is not numbered but original to the revolver. Information taken from Breslin, Pirie and Price book titled "Variations of Colt's New Model Police & Pocket Model Breech Loading Pistols," and this revolver is one digit away from one that these gentlemen used in their statistical data/survey (672, which was in the same configuration as mine). CONDITION: Frame retains 50% original bright case colors. Hammer retains 80% original bright case colors. Cylinder retains 70% original bright blue with most of the loss in the high spots. Barrel and ejector housing retain 60% bright original blue with most of the wear on the top of the barrel and turned patina. Original walnut grips have all the original varnish and minimal usage/scuff marks. Bore has well-defined but worn rifling and is slightly dark in the grooves with a hint of scattered black powder fouling, should clean out to be very good. Action is crisp and tight with nice lockup. Original brass trigger guard is uncleaned and has turned a mild, pleasing ochre. Grades NRA Antique Fine. TERMS: No international sales.
