1975 Colt Detective Special Third Series

The Colt Detective Special is a six-shot, carbon steel framed, double-action revolver, known as a "snub nose".  Actually, the Colt Detective Special is a shortened, streamlined Police Positive Special that was built on the Colt D-frame, manufactured between 1933 & 1995.  From 1966 and after, are the "short frame" versions, making them compatible with later D-frame models like Colt's Agent, Cobra, Commando, and Viper.  The Detective Special was the first short-barreled revolver produced with a modern swing-out frame.  It was designed from the outset to be a concealable pocket revolver chambered for higher-powered cartridges such as the .38 Special.  The Third Series ran from 1973 to 1986.  A shroud extended down from the barrel, enclosing and protecting the ejector rod, and the front sight was a full ramp sight.  Oversized wood grip stocks covered the front frame strap.  The third series also featured improvements to the revolver's internal lock work as well.  As with the previous Series, a few nickel plated guns wetre produced, and a limited 3" barreled variant was offered.  Offered for sale is Serial Number H22075, a 1975 short frame 3rd series, rare 3" nickel reolver.
