This is a Colt Detective special sold to the U.S. government ,shipped to Camp Ritchie Feb 24 ,1944.Used for Military Intelligence during WW2. The gun was blued and has a Square butt as required by the military. comes with colt factory letter .this was its first life.
Here is its second life. The seller said it was used by a relative who was a Deputy Sheriff in Texas for aprox 40 years. It was nickel plated, posibly because of the climate in texas.Or this man just like nickel guns.Its in great mechanical condition ,nice bore and cylinder,nice grips ,could be the originals. The extractor Rod head has been replaced, may be a military fix as the military did use that style of rod head in some of their rebuilds.Its comes with the Deputy Sheriff badge of the man who owned this piece. The badge names J.F.Burt on the upper face of it and under the grips there are 3 different hand incribed letters JFB in three places. So this interesting Military and Texas Deputy Sheriff's gun has a story to tell . Its in great shape and functions well.
