**SOLD** 1926 Vintage Colt Police Positive .38 Revolver in .38 Colt
** 100% Original & Beautiful Transitional 1st/2nd Issue! **
Description:
This is a very handsome and clean lightly-used Colt Police Positive .38 revolver model that is a transitional model built in 1926. While it shows the smooth top strap of a 1st issue gun it has the later barrel address with the last patent date of 1926 of a 2nd issue gun. While according to the Blue Book the 1st issue guns ended in 1927 and the 2nd issue guns started in 1928, this one was built with parts from both in 1926. It is absolutely 100% original and is in very good condition overall, having obviously lived a very easy life over the last nearly 100 years. This Colt Police Positive is finished with a factory gloss blue finish with polished bright hammer sides, and features a 4" inch barrel with fixed iron sights, a 6-shot fluted cylinder, and checkered American Walnut grips with silver Rampant Colt medallions. The factory blue finish is still very bright and shiny, showing only some scattered spots of prior rust that has long been removed and some minor handling marks. The deductions from the finish are superficial and are most certainly from long term storage where the gun wasnt wiped down entirely. As you can see from the pictures, what little imperfections there are do not detract much from the very clean overall look of the Colt. The polished sides of the hammer are still clean and bright with only a little staining on either side of the hammer that runs the angle of the frame where it sits at rest. These are no visible unless the hammer is cocked. All of the factory markings are still crisp, clean, and fully legible, including the Rampant Colt logo on the left side of the frame which was squarely struck and handsome. The factory applied serial number appear on the frame and on the cylinder swingarm, the cylinder itself, barrel, and grips are un-numbered. To be fair the grips may have been numbered in pencil as was the practice at this time, but it is no longer visible. With that said, these grips are absolutely original to the gun as they fit it perfectly and are tight to the grip frame with no wiggle. The metal to wood seam is perfect all the way around. The bore in the 4" inch barrel is mirror-bright and perfect with sharp rifling from the forcing cone to the crown of the muzzle. There is zero pitting or visible imperfections of any kind. All six chambers of the cylinder are likewise just as clean and free from damage. The action on this Colt Police Positive is exceptionally smooth and slick, typical of a hand-fit and tuned action from Colt in the 1920's. It is in "perfect time" no matter how fast or slow you work the action, single or double-action. All of the controls on the revolver are also in perfect working order. This little Colt .38 Police Positive should shoot just as reliably and accurately as the day it left the factory. If you have been looking for a collectible-grade Colt Police Positive .38 for your collection here is your chance to get a neat transitional variation that we have not seen before with a smooth top strap yet a barrel address with the last patent date being 1926. This should continue to be an excellent long-term investment as all-original pre-war double-action Colts seem to keep going up in value every year.
